1. Hengsha, the "Jewel of the Yangtse"
2. Faridah drops you on a rooftop. Head over and listen to these two girls talking about someone called Ning. Head inside via the door next to them.
3. Speak to the girl down the stairs, and she asks if you could go in and break up the fight between Mei and Edgar Lee.
4. You catch the tail end of an argument where Mei says she’s not getting augmented. This sounds sinister. Speak to Mei, and she has your number right off. She tells you about working girls being forced against their wishes to get augmentations, and that Ning, one of the newer girls, has gone missing. She tells you to speak with Chuanli who’s likely smoking on the roof.
5. Out on the landing, the middle door is open, but the far door can be hacked - level 3 - for 100XP and a stop worm.
6. Go in quietly and swipe this smart card which turns out to be something to do with Tai Yong Medical. Head out onto the balcony.
7. Climb over the balconies back to Mei’s to find a credit chip, then go back upstairs to the roof.
8. Turn left out of the door to find Chuanli by the roof terrace. Pay his bribe, and he’ll reveal Ning’s whereabouts.
9. Then knock him out and get your money back. I know - and he was so friendly! Take the path next to him and down some steps.
10. At this point, climb on the balcony for a 100XP traveller bonus and a burst-round upgrade kit. Carry on down the steps.
11. Climb this balcony (the stairs in this shot are the ones you come down) for another 100XP traveller bonus and PEPS ammo.
12. Carry on all the way down to here. Ning is being kept in a lockup down the alley on the right on the far side. Make your way over there.
13. There are 3 gang members guarding Ning’s cell, and they’ll get hostile if you approach. One of them patrols while the others stay still.
This is why I bought the
gas grenade. Equip it and toss it down when all three of them are together.
14. Ning’s being held in this storage lockup. Search the bodies: one of the harvesters carries a pocket secretary with the code 5377, or it’s a level 2 hack for 25XP.
15. Speak to Ning to complete this part of the mission. You get an update to return to Mei at the hotel.
16. Before that, time for some exploring. Further North along the path are these 4 storage units. Time to practice those hacking skills - but be careful, if any civilians see you they’re likely to report you to the cops lurking nearby, and they are trigger happy. They are all level 2.

17. At the end of the row, check out the directions sign. We’re looking for Hengsha Court Gardens, and it seems to be this way. Go down the steps and along the street.
18. At the foot of the steps, go into the back rooms of these open shops for a 2x100XP traveller bonus and some ammo.
19. Further along, past some concrete barriers, another open shop on the right has a back room with no goodies, but you still get the 100XP traveller bonus.
20. Follow the signs to the L.I.M.B. clinic.
21. Go in for 2 more Praxis Kits at 5000c each. You can explore the back room, but there’s nothing there of interest. Head back outside.
22. Outside, this level 2 storage unit can be hacked for 50c- but wait for some patrolling cops to move away first.
23. Keep left up the street and find another open shop for 100XP traveller bonus and some credits.
24. Go into the shop on the right for a pocket secretary with the code 6830. Again wait for the patrols to move away before hacking the level 2 storage unit (with the code yuou just found) above the subway steps for a stop worm.
25. Inside hack the level 2 safe for a revolver and ammo. The unlocked PC has some emails on it - a conversation transcript about some kind of biochip is interesting here.
26. Back down the street, follow these signs to "The Hive" over the footbridge.
27. Crawl through a gap in a fence to emerge here. A vent on the right leads into the club, but we’ll save that for now. Head up the alley and into a small turning on the right.
28. The level 2 locker (100c and stop worm) contains a target-leading upgrade - useful for the tranquiliser rifle.
29. Outside you can jump up to that shelf from the green bin for a 300XP pathfinder bonus to find a stun gun and darts. Jump over the fence up there too.
30. You emerge here. Enter the shop on the left for another 100XP traveller bonus and a credit chip, then go down the alley on the right.
31. Hack the level 2 storage unit here on the right for 75XP and a stop worm. Inside is a reload speed upgrade kit. Continue on up the steps at the end.
32. We’re back at the hotel. The shop on the right is open for another 100XP traveller bonus and a credit chip. Behind the counter, hack the level 2 safe for 100c and another credit chip. Then go into the hotel.
33. The office on the right has an energy pack in the cabinets, a level 2 safe (100c and 100XP, or wait for
the code) containing credits and ammo, and a level 2 security console. Hack it for 200c and a nuke, and disable a camera. Then come out and enter this room on the left.
34. This fellow is a merchant and will buy stuff you don’t need and sell you stuff if you do. The cabinets behind him are, sadly, empty. Time for more exploring later, first we need to revisit Mei upstairs.
35. On level 3 (one floor below Mei’s room) find this pocket secretary with the code 7657 for the safe in the office downstairs. The 3 rooms up here are all unlocked. The middle one has an energy bar, the left hand one a Hive membership card. That’s certainly going to be useful - entry is 1000c without one! Head on up stairs.
36. Speak with Mei who pays you 1000c for saving Ning, and offers you a further job for more money. She wants you to kill Diamond Chan, a gangster. If you ask about another way of dealing with him, Mei will give you a drug package to plant in Chan’s apartment. When you’ve finished talking with Mei, head up to the roof again.
37. This time head right out of the door and down the steps.
38. Keep going down at this point, and go into the backroom of the shop on the lower right for a 100XP traveller bonus. Go all the way down to the bottom.

39. Head through the passageway between the grocer and the steps.
40. Go through this door to enter the Youzhao District. The passage to the right leads back the way you came (if you stayed left as I did).
41. Follow the corridor outside. Climb the first ladder ahead, and then across a narrow ledge left to find a credit chip.
42. Drop down and wait for lurking people to move away before hacking this level 2 storage unit for 75c and a stop worm. Inside are some explosive barrels and a weapons case containing combat rifle ammo. On a chair nearby is a 500c credit chip. Nice!
43. Back up the street, ignore an alley on the left and find these two shops with open doors: 100XP traveller bonus for each. The near one has a credit chip, and a level 1 safe behind the counter (nuke virus) containing a credit chip. The other shop just has a credit chip in the back room.
44. Keep right at the end of the street - follow the signs to Hengsha Court Garden.
45. Enter this shop on the right for another 100XP traveller bonus and a credit chip, then head into the passage on the left to find a level 1 door to hack for a nuke.

46. Go all the way back down to the street. Turn right, following the signs for Hengsha Court Garden.
47. That’s the entrance to the apartment block ahead. Approach the guard to be warned off. We need an alternate way in.
48. Backtrack to the alleyway you just left, swiping a credit chip from behind the counter in the shop here, and climb the ladders shown here on the left, and clamber over some small platforms, all the way to the roof.
49. Listen to the two guards to learn that the roof area is out of bounds too. A level 1 door nearby can be hacked for a nuke and stop worm.
50. Inside, go through a vent to this elevator shaft, and bask in the 200XP explorer bonus. Climb down the ladders to the very bottom.
51. It’s a bit of a pain, but worth it for this Praxis Kit.
52. It’s time for a bit of upgrading fun. I invest in the move heavy objects and break weakened walls (arm augment) and the reflex booster, all of which will be imminently useful. I also get the glass cloaking system, and the icarus landing system for falling from a great height. On reflection, if I’d done that before climbing down the ladders, it would have saved some time! Never mind - you have to climb up them anyway.
53. Four flights up, the elevator starts to move. Quickly jump onto the roof and ride it up.
54. You end up a level above where you would have been able to easily climb to. If you missed the elevator, you can move a nearby crate to enable you to jump up here. Go through the vent on the left.
55. You drop down here. The left hand vent beyond the lift is the lower vent
here. My recently upgraded arms allow me to move the vending machine on the right to reveal another vent.
56. Go through and take the turn on the right just inside to come out here.
57. Three Belltower guards are on patrol here. You can leave them all alone, if you like. I take them out one at a time and steal their money and weapons.
58. That hole in the wall must be what they’re looking for. That toy doll on the kitchen counter…it’s obviously the control for a secret doorway.
59. Yup, it is. Can’t believe the Belltower guys couldn’t find it. Swipe a bunch of hacking tools, and hack the level 1 PC for 50c and 50XP. Read the emails identifying the hacker as "Windmill" a.k.a. "Arie van Bruggen". Faridah suggests you visit the Hive nightclub. I
knew that membership card would come in handy.
60. Search the nearest room on the left for hacking tools, a pistol and painkillers. The other room just has a beer, and another vent which joins up with the one you entered by. Finally, carefully exit via the far door.
61. Approach these two quietly.
62. This is why I invested in the reflex booster! Search the bodies then head back down the hall and take the elevator.
63. You come out here. Those two guards on the right - you know what you have to do.
64. Don’t make too much noise up here, or the guards below will come and investigate. There are four apartments on this (upper) level, all with level 1 doors.

65. Go through the vent. It comes out here on the left. Sneak to another vent just visible on the right.
66. You emerge back here. Hack the level 1 storage unit for a nuke, and find a PEPS gun, with ammo, and a credit chip inside.

Head back up the street to the end, and follow it to the far end past the ladders, left at the end, and almost to the end of the street (this is where you first entered the area). Climb the ladders there up to the roof. |
67. At the top, leap over a gap to the apartments shown straight ahead.
68. To the right of the row, hack this level 1 door for 50c. Inside swipe a credit chip in the kitchen, and tranquiliser darts in the bedroom. Read emails on the unlocked PC.
69. At the other end of the row is
Diamond Chan's apartment. As you approach you can hear him arguing with someone on the phone.
70. If you open the door before he finishes, he’ll get alarmed and approach the door. You can knock him out when he turns his back.
71. I’m in pacifist mood, so I plant the drugs and leave.
72. Jump back over the gap and down these stairs on the left near where you came up the ladder.

73. Go outside and turn left. Hack the level 2 storage unit for a stop worm. Inside is a credit chip and an ammo capacity upgrade. Ignore the sewer for now, and double back to the other end of the alley.
74. Return to the Kuaigan District up these steps - time to catch up with Mei.
75. You come out by the entrance to the Hung Hua Hotel. Go in and up to Mei’s room.
76. She pays you 2000c, and gets on the phone to her friend in the police to deal with Chan.
77. Go downstairs and offload any unwanted stuff with the merchant on the ground floor, then head round the corner behind him. Time for a bit of underground exploring. Go through a door and down a ladder to the sewers.
