20180328173125 1 The setting is a world of division and segregation. The events of the previous game - Deus Ex Human Revolution - resulted in the "Incident". Augmented people worldwide went into a frenzy of killing due in part to the actions of our protagonist, Adam Jensen. If you played that game, it doesn’t matter which ending you chose. Mankind Divided begins in the new Dark Age.

Beautifully styled and rendered, most of the action takes place in and around Prague, the only city hub in this game. Individual missions take you to Dubai, Switzerland and London, but the bulk of your time is spent exploring, investigating and finding your way around the capital of the Czech Republic in 2029.

This walkthrough takes you to (almost) every corner of the game’s world, exploring hidden areas, finding unusual ways to solve some of the puzzles. Partly because it’s fun, but it’s rewarding too: these routes sometimes yield XP bonuses, and this in turn allows you to unlock more of the augmented potential of Adam Jensen. The story is told in over 1500 screenshots. It’s played at the "Give Me Deus Ex" level of difficulty. 20180328195518 1

The game rewards a stealthy and non-violent approach to playing, too. Violence isn’t entirely avoided in this playthrough, but it is a pacifist playthrough. There is one point in the game where you need to make a choice between two missions, and you can only do one or the other. Either choice leads to an unavoidable NPC death. This playthrough achieved the "Pacifist" achievement, so no other NPCs were harmed permanently in playing this game. It also got "Foxiest of Hounds", meaning no alarms were activated.

In fact, I try to minimize the times I take-down (non-lethally) any of the antagonists I encounter in the playthrough. This makes for more challenging game-play, because taking down enemies can mean you get to explore in peace and quiet, and it also means I miss out on some secret codes on pocket secretaries, don’t get some ammo or weapons, and (most important) don’t get the small XP bonus of performing a take-down. YMMV. Some sections - notably the first visit to the Time Machine, the Toy Factory, the Narrows in Golem City, the "Dominic" side quest, Helle’s package and the Security Guards in London - pretty much need non-lethal violence. In the first 3 instances because of the story, the fourth would be impossible without it, the latter 2 because the achievements cannot be met without it.
